Always : a Flipbook, a Match Box and a Flashlight Card – MFT Superstar 2020 Innovation Master

Hiya Crafties!

MFT Superstar contest has 3 categories. I don’t know if we are allowed to have favorites, but I guess Innovation Master category seems to be mine. I am not saying whether it is but my liking tilts towards it. But still I am not taking sides. (Lest the other categories feel partial)

Its just that interactive cards are kind of my thing. I love converting all cards in to something interactive. It takes me some special efforts to stop myself from doing so every single time.

I feel interactive is the only way a card can be. I may be wrong. Just my opinion.

So for my card this time, I created something unique even for me.

It’s a Flipbook inside a match box card on top of which lies a Flashlight card! Phew!

You can find my card in action below:

I will divide my card in 3 sections : Flipbook ; Match Box ; Flashlight Card

Section 1 : The Flipbook

This is the first part which I created. I thought about a lot of ideas for this one. Believe me I created another flipbook but the story just didn’t deliver and I had to scrap it and then I made this one. Flipbooks are traditionally created by drawing similar images with tiny changes one after the other.

I wanted mine to be perfect whilst just using MFT stamps with no drawing of my own.

And Yes, I succeeded in creating one where the story is close to my heart with the cutest little stamp images from my MFT stash.

So I’ll name the stamp sets I used in making this Flipbook :

Bitty Bears ( the main character aka the Hero of the story)

Magical Dragons ( the wind images I created with the flames of the dragons. Lol)

Seaside Seagulls (for the rainy clouds)

Once Upon A Time ( for the tiny flower – so cute)

Adorable Elephants ( for the awesome sentiment)

For the last bear in the flipbook, I did some partial stamping. So the bear holding the balloon, then holds the flower.

I hand drew the raindrops coming out of the clouds.

All the backgrounds I have blended various distress oxides for different pages.

Namely : Salted Ocean, Tumbled Glass, Faded Jeans, Mustard seed, Squeezed Lemonade, Twisted Citron, Picked Raspberry and Ripe Persimmon.

The ‘Always’ Flipbook is a story depicting True love! As with the bear, how he endures stormy clouds, rain and gusty winds and yet never gives up on his Love.

And after the ordeal, how he holds a little flower as a gift for his beloved. Simply stating that Love is the greatest gift there is!
And giving someone the gift of your Love is the ultimate tribute!

The word ‘Always’ holds a special place in my heart. (all Harry Potter fans will know what I am talking about)

It is such a simple yet powerful word. It doesn’t make any lengthy declarations yet makes the promise of Forever.

I have based my entire card on the promise of Forever! (The flashlight card too!)

Section 2 : The Flashlight Card

For the Flashlight card, I have used the same Bitty Bears stamp set so the Hero of the story is here too!

The sentiment is from the ‘Safari Friends’ stamp set. Such a strong sentiment too! Here again my favorite word makes its appearance : Always.

I have used a ziploc bag for stamping the images in black ink. And then colored the images with alcohol markers.

I have then inserted the black cardstock strip inside the bag (after trimming it of course).

I hand drew the flashlight on white cardstock and colored it.

All you have to do is slip the flashlight in between the two layers of the bag and the black cardstock! And Voila! You can see the images! So much fun, right?

The Flashlight Card denotes that even though ‘I always have your back’, you need to find me with the flashlight I have given you : my Heart ❤

Here in the story the Bear has gifted this flashlight (aka his heart) to his beloved. So even when he is in his different phases, he has his beloved’s back!

Isn’t it so romantic?

Section 3 : Match box

Following are the dimensions I marked for creating it:

Outside cover:
12 in. × 3.5 in. Score at 3/4in. , from there 5 in., from there 3/4in., from there 5in.

Inside box :
6 3/8 in. × 5 in. Score at 3/4in. on all sides

I also added strips of ink blended cardstock on the sides of the box and a handle in the front.

I loved creating every part of this awesome card!

I am so thankful to My Favorite Things for always helping me in challenging myself to create something unique and innovative every time. This is truly a wonderful contest.

Hope you like my card.

Flowery Wishes

Hiya Crafties!

Heat embossing is such an integral part of card making. Be it heat embossing a sentiment, or a small image or a whole background! And it gives such beautiful effects!

For my card today, I heat embossed the entire background with Little birdie Gold embossing powder from Itsy bitsy.

The background stamp is by Simon Says Stamp named Flower Explosion. I love this stamp. It’s so pretty. And a must have for a coloring enthusiast.

Before embossing, I adhered a diecut circle of masking paper in the centre. This was so that I could add the sentiment in there.

The sentiment is by Craftyscrappers. I heat embossed it on black cardstock with white embossing powder.

I also added some green & gold paint splatters to bring everything together.

Lastly, I matted my panel with gold cardstock on an A2 card base.

And my card is done!!!

Surprise Pop up slider card!

Hiya Crafties!
I love making interactive cards! It’s fun making them and receiving them too! 😄

So here is one which I made for the Neat and Tangled Throwdown tutorial challenge.

I have a step-by-step photo tutorial for this surprise pop up slider card using Neat and Tangled stamps!
Step 1 :

I blended 3 distress oxides Squeezed Lemonade, Twisted Citron & Salty Ocean on white card panel measuring 5.25×4 inches with a mini blending tool.

Step 2 :
Then I diecut the panel with a rectangle-die measuring 4×3 inches.

Step 3 :
Then I cut an acetate sheet of size 4.25×3 inches ( the same size as the rectangle diecut but 1/4th inch larger on length side to stick it on the panel ).
I then scored the acetate on 1/4th inch from both sides and also in the middle.

Step 4 :
I then applied double sided tape on both the 1/4inch ends.
And stuck 1 end on the frame edge as shown by the arrow.

Step 5 :
I took black chipboard of size 4.75×3.5 inches and stuck the other end of the acetate on the black panel matching the edges as shown by the arrow in the second pic.

Step 6 :
I stamped the cute images from the ‘Wild Ones’ stamp set by ‘Neat and tangled’ on to watercolor cardstock with Versafine Onyx black ink. And colored them with my mozart Dual brush pens.
The critters are so cute, aren’t they? ❤

Step 7 :
After that, I watercolored some circles and diecut them with the Paper Smooches balloon-die.
I also stuck strips of acetate on the back of each of the balloons with double sided tape.

Step 8 :
Then I scored the acetate strip of each balloon and adhered the scored part on the underside of the frame as you can see in the pic.

The balloons stand perpendicular to the base as shown by the arrow in the pic.

I also attached the gift and bird image alongwith the balloons.
These balloons will slide back under the black panel giving an element of surprise when you slide open the card. 😉
I also stamped the frame with the little confetti stamps from the same stamp set with black ink.
Step 9 :
I mounted foam tape on the back side and adhered it to an A2 white card base ( such that it is close to but doesnt touch the black panel and keeps room for it to slide).

Step 10 :
I then arranged and adhered all the stamp images on the lower part of the acetate such that they would seem to be floating.

Step 11 :
Taking a black strip, I heat embossed the sentiment from the ‘Wild for you’ stamp set by Lawn Faw with white embossing powder. And mounted it on the end of the frame.

Step 12 :
I hand drew an arrow with black tip pen, fussy cut it and adhered it on the exposed part of the black panel.

And finally my card is complete! Phew! 😄😜

Tunnel Inside!

Hi Crafties!

Layers in cards are so much fun to make and also create so much interest.

Today I have a inside tunnel card where I have created a jungle inside.

For the front , I kept it monochrome with the color green.

I used the ‘Happy’ sentiment stamp by ‘Craftyscrappers’ and applied Twisted citron & Lucky Clover distress oxides to create shaded effect.

I also added stripes using the ‘Fun with stripes’ stamp set by Mudra and finished it off with green sparkling dotties.

Here’s the inside :

I used the ‘Critter Party’ stamp set by Mudra stamps.

The amazing Jennifer Mcguire has step by step instructions on youtube. You can check out her blog post here.

For the ink blended background, I used Twisted Citron & Lucky Clover distress oxides.

I stamped, watercolored & fussy cut the images and adhered them accordingly.

I also used a cloud stencil with Salty ocean distress oxide.

The sentiment is from the same stamp set.

Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge : Monochrome

Thank you Cards

Hey Crafties!

We celebrated Teacher’s day in India on 5th September.
5th September is the birth anniversary of a great teacher Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was a staunch believer of education, and was a well-known diplomat, scholar, the President of India and above all, a teacher.

To celebrate this occasion I made 2 cards for my niece’s teachers!

I used the radiating rays stencil by Craftyscrappers.

For the green rays card, I used Twisted Citron distress oxide and Mowed Lawn distress ink through the stencil.

I diecut an oval piece of cardstock and blended Wild Honey distress oxide on it.

I then stamped, colored and fussy cut the cute girl image from Waffle Flower’s ‘Hello’ stamp set.

The sentiment I stamped from itsy bitsy’s ‘Happy Bird-Day’ stamp set.

For the Yellow rays card, I used Wild Honey distress oxide through that same stencil.

For this card, I stamped, colored and fussy cut the same girl image.

The sentiment is stamped in a contrasting color.

Made both these cards in less than an hour which was quite a feat for me 😀

Do let me know your thoughts in the comments.

Thank you for stopping by… Have a great day ahead!
