Metallic Projects

Today I have not one but three tutorials using Little birdie Metallic Wax – Copper Blaze.

This product is so versatile, you could use it on a variety of mediums and finishes. It gives instant shine to your projects.

Lets get started –

Project I :

The first project I am showcasing is a home decor project.

Step 1:

I used Little Birdie embossing paste in Frosty Fizz with Little Birdie 14×14 inch stencil Classy Lace on black cardstock. The cardstock measured 7″ × 12″.

I used only half of the stencil.

* Spreading the paste evenly with a spatula is the key*

Step 2:

It looks like this.

With the help of a heat gun, I got this texture of the paste like below.

Isn’t it gorgeous?

Step 3 :

Then I used my Star product – Little Birdie Metallic Wax in Copper Blaze. I used my finger to dab the wax on the elevated parts of the design. I purposefully avoided some areas and kept them white. I also let the wax spread a bit on the cardstock too. Its unto you how you want the design to look.

Step 4:

I adhered the cardstock on heavyweight chipboard of the same size.

To further decorate the panel, I used Pearl drops by Little Birdie.

And my project is complete!

Project II :

Now, let’s move on to the second project :

Step 1:

On a square canvas measuring 4″×4″, I stamped the sentiment from the Family stamp set in the middle.

Step 2:

I then lightly drew a circle around it with the help of a lid. I spread the Glass Bead Gel by Little birdie around the circle with the help of a spatula.

Step 3:

After drying it looks like this :

Step 4:

The next step involves sponging on top of the gel with Little Birdie Chalk paints in Frozen Ice & Sailing Sky.

I also mixed those two to get a darker grey.

Step 5:

After drying, I spread Little Birdie Metallic Wax in Copper Blaze.

I also outlined the circle with the chalk paints. And used pearl drops around the circle to further enhance the look.

And its complete!

Project III :

Now, lets begin the 3rd tutorial :

You can use this versatile metallic wax in cardmaking too!!!

Step 1:

Taking a 4 × 4 inch Bright White cardstock , I used various distress inks and smooshed them using water.

Step 2:

After I was satisfied with the result, I stamped the Flora Wishes stamp by Little Birdie on the panel and heat embossed it with Little Birdie Clear Embossing powder.

Step 3:

I then spread the Metallic Wax Copper Blaze on top of it with my finger. After that I took a tissue and wiped the excess off!

Step 4:

On a base of Classic White cardstock measuring 5.5″ × 11″ , scored at 5.5″, I stamped the sentiment from the same stamp set repeatedly with festive berries distress ink.

I adhered the square panel in the middle. Also, I spread the Metallic Wax Copper Blaze all over the sides. And stuck red shiny tape on two sides.

*To make it transfer proof, I applied a thin layer of Little Birdie Matte Varnish*

And my card is complete.

Let’s make the base first :

Step 1:

I first took a light brown handmade paper by Little Birdie measuring 8.5″ × 12″. Scored this piece on the long side at 2.75″, 5.5″, 8.25″ and 11″.

Step 2:

Then I cut off 2″×12″ from the above panel. Kept this strip aside as we would require it later.

Step 3:

I then scored the 6.5″ × 12″ panel at 2.75″ on the shorter side and cut along the red lines as shown in the pic.

It will look like this :

Step 4:

The strip (from step 2), I cut at 4.75″ from the end with the 1″ score line.

Then trimmed it in half the long way to get 2 strips of 1″ x 4.75″ each as shown in the pic. Scored them and added double sided tape to the scored ends.

See how I attached them to the box:

Step 5:

For the matting I cut the following :

6 panels of 2.5″ square

3 panels of 2.5″ × 3.5″

2 panels of 2.5″ × 6.5″

See how I adhered them below :

I adhered a white piece of cardstock on the back to write a message for the recipient.

For the flowers :

Step 1:

I used the Watercolour Paper Blooms pack by Little Birdie. Leaving the largest size, I used the other 3 sizes of flowers.

Step 2:

You can watercolor them as per your choice. I used watercolor pencils to color them. Then I embossed the petals a little bit and decorated the center with Little Birdie Pearl drops. I let the drops dry overnight.

* You can make smaller or larger dots based on your choice. They dry hard. *

Step 3:

I also diecut leaves from the Ornate frame dieset with green cardstock.

Step 4:

The next step is to add thin strips of green cardstock (of different lengths) to each of the flowers and some of the leaves.

Step 5:

I also diecut 3 panels of cream color handmade paper using appropriate Square cross-stitch thin cut die by Little Birdie.

I stamped a sentiment onto this from my stash.

The last step is to attach the flowers & leaves with glue onto the box as per your choice.

Let’s begin the tutorial

First we will prepare the bouquet of flowers.

Step 1 :

I began by first stamping the Flowerful Gratitude stamp onto Bright White cardstock!

Step 2 :

Immediately I pour Clear embossing powder by Little Birdie on the stamped image and heat embossed it with my heat gun.

Step 3:

I now had to color this pretty image. As I wanted to give shine & sparkle to my flowers, I decided to use the pretty Sparkle Pastes by Little Birdie for watercoloring!

Yes, you read it right!

You can use your sparkle pastes for coloring too! I like to stretch my products, making them work for more than something they were meant to!

Sparkle pastes are so pretty, I just had to use them for coloring!

Step 4 :

I took a little bit of paste with a spatula on a glass block.

* Take little by little as it tends to dry fast *

If your paste is pliable, you need not add water. Just wet your brush.

But if it is bit sticky, then add 1-2 drops of water on it and just mix it with your brush.

* When you first try it, it might seem a bit tricky!

But what’s the fun in doing something easy, right? 😉 *

Step 5 :

If you don’t have all the colors of the pastes, no problem. I didn’t have too!

I took some Whipped Cream Sparkling Paste and dabbed a little bit of Mustard Seed distress ink and mixed the two. Voila! Yellow colored sparkle paste is ready.

Step 6 :

Now to color the mason jar, I used Distress Oxides in the shades Tumbled Glass, Salty Ocean and Blueprint Sketch, blending them with a cylindrical sponge by Little Birdie.

Step 7 :

I also stamped and fussy cut images from the Chirpy Garden stamp set and another older stamp set by Itsy Bitsy.

Step 8 :

Cutting strips of acetate, I adhered these images onto the strips and then the strips on the back of the mason jar, rearranging them as according to the result I wanted.

This is how it looks :

Now, to make the base –

Step 1 :

For this, I took a square of 6 × 6 inches of Bright cardstock. And different shades of distress oxides – Tattered Rose, Worn Lipstick & Picked Raspberry.

(You can tell by now, that I Love distress oxides 😀 )

Step 2:

Ink smooshing was the effect I was going for.

To achieve this, you need a piece of acetate (a sheet of packing material is fine too). Dab the oxides onto the acetate and sprinkle some water on it. Now turn the acetate and press it on the cardstock.

* You can also wet the cardstock a little bit to help move the oxides. But it’s optional *

This is how it will look:

Now, dry it with your heat gun and do this again. You can keep repeating this step till you get your desired effect.

This is the end result :

Step 3 :

To create more interest, I used the script stencil by Little Birdie along with Picked Raspberry distress oxide.

Step 4 :

To embellish the panel, I cut the pink mini envelope, the mini sentiment & the heart from the True Story paper pack by Little Birdie.

I scored the envelope on the dotted lines and adhered the sentiment inside it.

The other heart is from Pretty in Pink paper pack.

The glitter sentiment is from a mini embellishment pack.

I also stuck strips of Pink glitter card stock from the Glitter Cardstock Brights paper pack.

The front panel is done.

Now, Let’s assemble the inside Pop-up mechanism!

Step 1:

For this, I took the pink paper from the Chevron in Aquarelle Paper pack by Little Birdie. This paper pack has such beautiful watercolored papers.

The paper was cut to 6 × 12 inches and scored at 6 inches on the larger side.

Step 2 :

On the back side of it, I marked a rectangle measuring 1.25 × 1.75 inches and cut it at the marked crosses.

Then I scored it as shown.

I also marked 2 smaller rectangles measuring 0.75 × 1 inches and repeated the steps.

Step 3 :

I then pushed the rectangles on the inside and then scored it again.

It should look like this from inside :

Step 4 :

I also stamped, colored and fussy cut a bear and a hippo from the Jungle Birthday stamp set.

I adhered both the critters and the Mason Jar bouquet on the pop up panels.

And finally stuck the inside panel on a 6 × 6 base card (measuring 6 × 12 inches and scored at 6 inches) on the inside and the oxide panel we created earlier, on the front! The inside sentiment is also from the True Love Story paper pack.

And our Pretty in Pink Bouquet Pop up card is ready!
